Cleaning Up/Colour bleed on Silk Persian

Question
Please advise what to do on severe colour-bleed on most of the surface area of a very expensive 100 percent Silk Quom, washed with mild soap and warm water in error, (obviously).

Answer
Michael,

I am so sorry to hear about your rug!  Unfortunately, most silk rugs do not survive color bleeding, and the repair process is extremely expensive and hardly effective.

Do you have photos you can send?  I can hopefully give you a better diagnosis when I see what has happened to the rug.  If this damage was caused by a carpet cleaner, I suggest you speak to them about replacing this rug.  You're right, these rugs are extremely expensive, and if this rug cannot be restored to its original look (which it probably cannot), it will have lost most of its value.

Best of luck,
Katie (ruglady@jahannandsons.com)
