Cleaning Up/I chipped my coffee cup

Question
I chipped a few pieces from the top of the cup when I was returning from an
overseas trip.  However I did manage to save those pieces but am wondering
if it is possible to restore them, especially since I do know where the pieces
go and have been able to put them in the right place--like a puzzle!  What
sort of adhesive would you recommend that would keep those pieces securely
in place but would also make the cup safe to drink, as the broken part
corresponds to the "lip" area?   I appreciate your help.

Answer
Thanks for the question and I'm glad you have the pieces. It sounds like this is a job for

Elmer’s Craft Bond Ultra Stix All/Craft Bond Ceramic and Glass Cement

I've seen it at Target, Walmart, Michaels Arts and Crafts and Home Depot

Steps: Make sure glued pieces mate well and that surfaces are clean. Lightly sand smooth surfaces. The edges may be extremely sharp so use caution. Protect the work area with old newspaper because glue can damage wood finishes. Apply glue to one side of area to be glued. Align the parts and press together firmly for a few minutes. For larger pieces like plates and bowls apply masking tape perpendicular to the glue joint to act as a clamp and let sit for 3 or more hours. For a coffee mug handle, wooden clothespins work well to hold the pieces together and won’t scratch the surface.

Both glues are odor and solvent free, non-flammable, and dishwasher safe. Use a dry cloth to clean up surfaces and hands before glue dries. The Ceramic and Glass cement can be dissolved with acetone-based nail polish remover.

Hope this helps. -Jamie
