Cleaning Up/spilt lamp oil

Question
My husband knocked over an oil lamp and splashed oil on the shelves the lamp was on, as well as the wall and carpet.  How do I get rid of the smell?

Answer
Hi Tonia;
First, put kitty litter on the shelf and carpet and let soak for about 30 minutes. This will absorb anything that is left or penetrated. Then simply wash with a solution of hot water, baking soda and vinegar (quart of water, 1/4 cup of vinegar and baking soda).
I hae also heard that 'simple green' will work although you may have to wash it more than once to pull all of the smell.
Good Luck,
