Cleaning Up/Roll lines on stored carpet

Question
QUESTION: I have a large rug that has been rolled and stored for a couple of years.  100% Wool - Belguim.  It has now been laid out on the floor and the roll lines are clearly visable.  Will these fade in time and is there anything I can do to reduce the lines?

ANSWER: Hi Jane,
Thank you for your question.  The creases may come out with prolonged use, but with a huge emphasis on prolonged.  In order to remove the folds from your rug, you will need to have it cleaned.  This should remedy the issue quite fast, provided that you unroll and use the rug shortly after cleaning.  For extremely severe creases, you may need to have your rug blocked.  Blocking is the process by which the rug is slowing and carefully stretched while wet.  Either way, you'll need to have it cleaned first to determine if blocking, the more costly procedure, is necessary.
I hope this helps.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Best,
Katie (ruglady@jahannandsons.com)

QUESTION: Thank you for your quick response.  The lines are more compressed pile than creases.  Where the rug has been rolled and laid down on its side, the pile looks as if it has been flattened by the weight.  Would your suggestion of having it cleaned help here too?  I have a picture if this would help.

Answer
You're welcome to send me some pictures if you'd like (ruglady@jahannandsons.com).  You'll definitely want to wash the rug.  It will restore the fluffiness (is that a word?) of the pile.  It doesn't sound to me like you'll need to have any blocking done.
