Cleaning Up/stain on a couc

Question
We think we have vasoline stain on our couch. What can we do to get rid of the stain

Answer
Hi Frank,
Vaseline would be a grease based stain, so almost any grocery-store product will work to remove this stain.  You'll want to stay away from products that claim they can remove tea, coffee, or red wine, as these products are for dye-based stains.  Afta, a product used by dry cleaners will work if you can find some.  Usually the product is sold at hardware and home stores.  You're going to want to check the product on an inconspicuous spot of the fabric before going to town on the stain, just to make sure.  Another good product choice is Spot Shot, sold in a blue and orange can.  It is worth the money.
It is very likely that after you get the vaseline stain out, you'll end up with a conspicuously clean spot.  You might need to clean your whole sofa, just to warn you.
I'm more of a rug person, rather than a furniture person, but a stain is a stain, so hopefully our stain removal methods will work out for you.  Best of luck!
