Cleaning Up/white spots on red linoleum from acetone

Question
A contractor accidentally walked in white paint and tracked it on my elderly mother's red linoleum. He tried to clean up the paint with fingernail polish remover. It created white halos on her linoleum. Did this strip the wax in those spots? What can I do to get rid of the white halos?
Thank you.

Answer
Marcie,
Very lightly scour over the area with "0000" steel wool. This should remove any residue from the stain.  Then get a floor polish and use over the area.  I like "Armstrong's Floor Polish" the best.

You might want to try this in a hidden area first--but it's what I did for years.
