Cleaning Up/Rug Cleaning
Expert: Jahann and Sons Persian Rugs - 7/21/2008
QuestionHI,
I have a more modern orential style rug. (a couple hundred rug.) It has a couple spots were pets have urinated on it. I would like to clean it very well. Do you think I need to scrub this by hand / with my carpet shampooer, or could I do more with the hose washing it outside since we are having such nice weather lately (hot).
Ok last part of the question. Could I put this rub (about 8X10) into one of theose large commercial washers at the laundry mat?
Thanks
Jamie
AnswerHi Jamie,
Thanks for your question. Can you tell me a little bit more about your rug? Pet urine is a touchy issue, and cleaning it can be a little complicated because of color running and such. Do you know what your rug is made of? What color is it and does it have a cloth backing on it? Is it machine-made, tufted or knotted? Anything else you might know would be a big help.
From what you've told me thus far, I would think that taking the rug out and using a hose on the spot (running the water through the rug, very gently, not spraying it down at an angle) will probably be the best bet to get the pet urine out completely. The washing machine is probably a bad idea, as it will agitate the carpet and cause the dyes to transfer onto other parts of the rug.
Just let me know when you get a chance. I'm happy to help!
