Question
I recently purchased a 9 by 9 karastan rug at a garage sale .  It had been in storage for a year and now has several light brown stain marks present on it.  Could this be mold or rust spots.  the owner stated that they were not there when he put this in storage.  what could these spots be and how can they be removed.  The rug is in excellent shape except for these spots.  thank you

Answer
Hi Karen,

Sorry for the late reply!  We've just moved our business and gotten the office set up.  Brown marks on a rug could be either rust stains or possibly furniture polish.  Old English, though it works well on wood, can do a number on carpets if spilled.  If there is a pattern to the stains, then you should be able to tell if they are from the legs of a piece of furniture or not.  If the stains were mold, you'd be able to smell it.  Do you have any pictures you could email me?  I might be able to tell what the stain is with a few photos.  If you're in the DC area, you could just stop by with you rug and we can clean it for you.  Just shoot me an email when you get a chance.

Best,
Katie (ruglady@jahannandsons.com)
