Question What is the best method for cleaning pewter?
Answer Hi Glenda;
As you may know by know, I am always for cleaning things the old fashioned way. It is not only less expensive, but more times than not, it also cleans better. There are many pewter polishes and cleaners on the market today, however I stick to the tried and true.
Simply mix about 1/4 teaspoon of salt, a 1/4 cup of flour and enough vinegar to make it into a paste. Rub it on the pewter piece, let sit for about 10-15 minutes and wash off in dish washing soap and water. Dry completely and rub to a shine. There are different types of pewter, satin, shiny and oxidized looking, so the shine would be what ever the pewter finish allows it to be.
Pewter is basically a tin alloy, so it doesn't tarnish, it just becomes dirty and dull and this will clean it and bring back the original luster.
Good luck and Happy Cleaning!!
