Question I know how to clean the leaves of my 6ft silk Ficus tree, but the question is how do I clean the basket that the tree comes in? It has allot of packing type material on the bottom with the straw like material covering the top, every time I move the tree everyone starts sneezing and hacking from the dust. I have tried just dusting with a duster but this does not get into the crevices of the basket.
Answer Hi Fran;
Basically, you can use the same method for cleaning both items, a matter of fact, if you have a plastic bag that is big enough, you can put your entire tree in it and clean everything at once.
Simply mix 1/2 cup of salt to 1 cup of baking soda, put into a plastic bag (the size that you need to cover everything and tie shut) and then shake it or roll it several times so that the ingredients get all over everything. The saalt works as the abrasive without harning anything and the baking soda works as the cleaner and disinfectant to eliminate the dust grime and to give it a fresh odor.
It is simpe to do and fast.
You can also take your tree and basket apart and do it seperately in case one ara accumulates dust faster than others.
This is simple and inexpensive. There are several cleaners on the market, but (since I have tried most of them) I still go back to my tried and true cleaning ingredients.
Happy Cleaning,
