yes, wd40 does work for removing paint safely off wood. i brought this beautiful espresso chest from craigslist, but it got chipped when we moved. i tried to spray paint the chipped area and realized the shade of espresso was a shade off. tried to remove it with more spray paint and made an absolute mess. i almost cried. so i searched the internet and found this article. i put a little wd40 on a rag and rubbed softly on the spray painted area and it removed it instantly. i noticed that my original color on my chest was not removed in the process. so now all i have to do is find the right color spray paint to attempt again, and if it is not the right color i know what to use to get it off. thanks jan!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU GEORGE!  Your remedy worked wonders.  I was trying to unclog a spray paint can in my kitchen (not smart).  Which I ended up being successful with but, once it opened paint went all over my kitchen cabinets, stove top and microwave.  Not happy.  It's been over a month, and I decided there had to be a way to get this paint off so, I googled and found this!  Anyone looking to get some spray paint off, use some baking soda and salt period.
