Cleaning Up - silverware

Question
Is it safe to put sterling silver flatware into the dishwasher on a daily basis?

Answer
Hi Linda;
This information is right the the Western Silver Company:
Sterling silver is dishwasher safe, however, hand washing and drying is
recommended. If you use the dishwasher for cleaning, use a mild
detergent, do not mix sterling with stainless or silverplate in the same
wash and remove flatware before the dry cycle or turn off the drying
cycle.

Use a soft cloth to dry each piece thoroughly. Do not use detergents
with additives such as bleach or any type of scent. Make sure each piece
is completely dry before putting it away in the storage chest.

If your sterling is used on a regular basis, and stored in a silver
chest, it will rarely need polishing. Sterling silver flatware will
tarnish and need occasional polishing with a silver cream.

I personally, have used my sterling silver in the dishwasher for years without any bad results. However, I never mix it with silverplate or stainless, I read this many years ago and it kind of stuck with me. I understand that it can give off a chemical reaction and spot the silver and everything else that is in the dishwasher.

I hope this helps.
