Cleaning Up/Colors Bled

Question
Hello, I have an oriental rug that I laundered after doing a colorfastness test. Even though the test results were fine the red dye bled all over the ivory color and fringe, turning it pink. This rug was very expensive and a few years old. This was the first time cleaning. Is there anything I can do to save the rug? I can submit pictures if needed. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you in advance...

Answer
Hi Amy,

Oriental rugs are very tricky, and a colorfast test does not always work out, as the entire rug is usually not the same wool from the same dye lot.  Tribal rugs are especially difficult to determine colorfastness.  Red color running can be repaired using dye removers and sometimes bleach.  If you can please send me some photos, I can tell you if this is something worth risking and doing yourself or if you need to send it out to a pro.

Thanks,
Katie
