Answer
Hi Helyn,

Unfortunately, buckling tends to be a problem with rugs that have wool foundations.  I'm guessing that this is the kind of rug that you have, as Afghani rugs very often have wool foundations.

Let me ask you something: is it humid where you live?  Sometimes, a rug doesn't need to get wet to buckle.  The humidity can do this to it.  I'm in the Washington, DC area and our summers are awful, and this happens here all the time.  I'm wondering if this might be the cause of your troubles.  If not, I'll have to mull it over and figure out what else might be the culprit.

To remedy this situation, you need to have your rug blocked.  Hopefully, this would be a permanent fix because your rug's foundation will have aclimated to your local weather.

Hope the information is helpful.

Best,
Katie
