Cleaning Up - pet cleaner to pretreat cloth diaper

Expert: Jan Hayner - 9/30/2009

Question
Would I be able to use the "Earth Friendly Product" brand of Pet Stain and Odor Solution to pretreat cloth diapers while in the wet bag awaiting machine washing?  The ingredients include surfactant (coconut and lemon oil), enzymes, etc.  This product is very effective for pet stains and odors.  Thanks for any advice!

Answer
Hi Yuki;
I wouldn't try it. It is the enzyme part tha worries me. If it is used for animals it has to be strong and that means that it may not all wash out. The baby could get diaper rash a or an infection.
Stick with the natural green cleaning ingredients and you won't have a problem and neither will the baby.
Mix:
1.4 cup of baking soda
1 cup of vinegar and a
gallon of water. Set the diapers in until you are ready to wash.
They are all natural ingredients and baking soda does the deodorizing, vinegar works as a fabric softner and takes away odoer as well!
Just throw it in the washing machine when you are ready and add about 1/8 cup more baking soda and perfect diapers!
Happy washing,
Jan Hayner
