Question
Our generator leaked out gas onto the carpet and also the cement,I pulled the carpet up and tossed it in the garbage but there is a stain where it happened also you can still smell it. How can I get rid of the smell????

Answer
Hi Susan,

Thank you for your question.  I'm actually a rug expert, so this is a little bit beyond my expertise, but I'll try and answer with what I would do in a similar situation.  Powerwash the cement floor to get rid of any remaining residue from the gasoline.  Then, if possible, enclose the area where the gasoline leaked and stash regular charcoal (not the prelit stuff) and newspaper in the area.  After a few days, this should soak up the smell.  You may need to replace the newspaper and charcoal a few times as you're doing it.  This is how we get rid of smells inside our delivery van and cleaning room.  Hopefully, the same will work for your home.

Best,
Katie
