Cleaning Up/Hard Water Spots Followup

Question
Robert, thank you for your contributions.  You provided info on chemicals and white scrubbies for removing hard water spots.  I have to ask, are these safe on new residential windows?  I have new Marvin higher end windows, got them right before putting in sprinkler.  Pre-adjustment and rainy days have left spots.  Not terrible, but persistent and annoying.  I've tried windex, sparkle and vinegar from the kitchen with no improvement. I've only used cloth and paper towels.  I'd rather have spotty windows for 20 years than damaged ones for only ten.  I also want to avoid damaging the steel siding surrounding the windows.  Is all this safe for me?

Answer
Daniel,

If you have read my previous articles carefully, then, yes these methods are safe for all glass.

A white scrubbie pad will not scratch glass. If though you have concrete, sand, or something harder than the glass caught in a white scrubbie pad, that Will scratch the glass.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer, I would suggest you also look at professional window cleaning supply web sites like J. Racenstein, ABC Window Cleaning Supply, Detroit Sponge, etc. for their hard water stain removal supplies and tips.

You can also call in a professional window cleaner to help you. Make sure they are experienced in this area , have insurance and references.

By the way, rain water will not harm your glass, the sprinkler system will!

Happy window cleaning and let me know how things turn out!

Sincerely,

Robert Lamb
