Cleaning Up/Mildew in a feather top bed cover.

Question
I have a full size feather bed topper. It was cleaned by a professional for pee stains from a dog. When it came back it had an intense mildew smell, and the woman wouldnt clean it again, denying it was her fault. I have tried taking it to a laundrimat, and washed it in white vinegar, then dried, but the mildew smell stayed. I then tried a bleach soak and them partially dried it and the smell was worse. Can it be saved? or should I give up on it?

Answer
Hi Susan,

Sorry to hear about the topper. I have three ideas:

1. hang it in bright sunshine - sunlight kills lots of mildew

2. call the manufacturer and ask for other suggestions

3. take the topper to a dry cleaner - they can do a lot with dry chemicals

I would stop wetting it as my best guess is that will only increase whatever may be growing.

These toppers are expensive so I'd try another thing or two before you throw in the topper :)

Good luck! -Jamie
