Cleaning Up/Nian Rug w/wrinkles

Question
Hello,

I recently moved to Hawaii from D.C.  I have a 5x8 high quality signed Nian (sheeshla?) that was rolled tightly and then fold in half by the movers.  When it was unrolled after the move we found a terrible wrinkling down the entire center of the carpet.  Is this something that can be fixed our is the rug ruined?  The rug has a beautiful sky blue background and was purchased in the UAE.

Thank you for your help!

Justin

Answer
Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear about your rug and very jealous of your move to Hawaii!  Your rug just has a bad case of "bed head."  If you dampen your rug slightly (carefully minding the dyes of the rug) and brush all of the pile in one direction with a clean brush, then set a piece of board on it to flatten it, this should fix the problem.  If it has been a few years since the last time you had your rug professionally cleaned, I'd recommend having this done and letting a pro handing the wrinkling.  It shouldn't be a terribly difficult fix.

Best of luck,
Katie
