Cleaning Up/Window frames aluminium

Question
Hi there,

I am refurbishing a flat from around 1960s /70s (built) which has aluminium frames around the windows. I assume they haven't been cared for for some time. I have cleaned them but they remain dull with spots and a layer of dirt that won't move. How can I bring these up to shine before I decorate the wood surround?

Answer
We are about to start a commercial cleaning project like the one you describe. The project is dependent on the following two projects:

OneRestore and A.R.T. These products are specifically designed to clean and restore these types of aluminum frames.

OneRestore is an all purpose cleaner and A.R.T. (Anodized Restoration Treatment) is a solvent-based resin system designed for treating the surface of anodized aluminum to restore the satin luster that has been damaged over time.

Both products are made by EaCo Chem in New Castle, Pennsylvania USA. Their web site is www.eacochem.com. I purchase these products from a window cleaning supply house. In the United states, there are several good supply houses as I am sure there must be in your area.

The process is simple. Basically you spray on the cleaner, rinse off the cleaner and apply the surface treatment with a rag or brush.

Give it a try and be sure to closely follow the directions and safety precautions on the products.

Let me know how it turns out!

Sincerely,

Robert Lamb
