Cleaning Up/Vinyl Window Cleaning

Question
We have a three seasons porch that has vinyl window panes.  Over the years I have cleaned them with the cleaner that is supposed to keep the vinyl soft, clean, and still somewhat flexible.  I have started to see a film on the vinyl that is very hard to remove.  Was told that Murphy's Soap, first, then clean with the Vinyl cleaner. I am using a product called PGT VINYL CLEANER & PRESERVATIVE,that was recommended by the manufacturer of the three seasons porch.  I just can't seem to get all the grime off the vinyl.  Can you give me any suggestions.  Live in Michigan, so you know the weather conditions... Thanks so much.

Answer
Gordon,

Are these vinyl window panes the kind that are like very thick Saran (clear plastic food) Wrap?
If so, the last time I called the company that make these vinyl panes, they said, 'Use a mixture of Murphy's Oil soap and warm water or Woolite and warm water.' I suggest using microfiber cloths with the above solution to wash these panes. You have to be VERY careful that you do not scratch your vinyl window panes. Even paper towels might damage them.

You may also want to rinse the windows with deionized or distilled water. Deionized and distilled water have no chemicals or minerals in them and as such, would leave no residue behind after they dried. (This type of water is found in 'spot free rinses in some car washes.) Tap water often leaves residue behind.

Unfortunately, the lifespan of some of these vinyl panes is only about 1.5 years.

I answered a similar question in 2006. There are more helpful tips in that answer. It would be good for you to read that too. Here's the link: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Cleaning-2305/vinyl-windows-1.htm

Let me know how it turns out!
