Cleaning Up/Cleaning Color Bleed

Question
Hi Katie,

I purchase a new garment with red background and white floral. It's a 100% cotton and I have washed it following factory recommendation, hand wash with cold water. However, when I washed it the first time, the red bleed in to the white area. Wondering if it's possible to get it out and what should I do?

Thank you for your time.

Susan

Answer
Hi Susan,

Thanks for the email.  I'm actually not a clothing expert, but color running is a problem that we run into a lot with rugs, so I thought I'd answer anyway.  There is a great dye-remover that helps with color running.  We use it mixed with our own chemicals on rugs, but I'm sure if you follow their directions, it will help with your clothes as well.  Their website has pretty clear instructions: http://www.ritdye.com/laundry.asp

The only drawback is that you might make the red a little less bright, but that might be the lesser of two evils.

Good luck,
Katie
