Cleaning Up/car windshield

Question
QUESTION: I had my car washed and cleaned, including the windows.  Driving home I noticed an area on the windshield, about the size of a dinner plate, that looked slightly blurry.  It looks like a piece of saran wrap was melted onto the windshield, though it doesn't feel different to the touch.  I have tried every known commercial and homemade window cleaner I can find to remove it but nothing has helped.  Hope you can.

ANSWER: Susan,

Is this area you describe on the front or rear glass?

Do you think the affected area is on the inside or outside of the glass?

Thanks,

QUESTION: Robert,
It appears to be on the inside of the front windshield. Directly in front of the steering wheel.  I know the car wash uses armor all on the dash and I contacted the armor all web site and asked about removal of that. I followed their instructions but the area is still there. I suspect if it is some sort of silicone I'm never going to get it off...short of dynamite!!!

Answer
Susan,

Your answers help a lot.

Here's my suggestion:

1. Get some extra fine (000 or 0000 grade) steel wool.

2. Sprinkle a little baby powder on it (this absorbs any silicone that may be on the window).

3. Put down a drop cloth to catch any droppings.

4. Rub the steel wool in a circular motion on the affected area.

Don't worry about scratching the glass if you use fine grade steel wool. Do not use 00 or 0 grade steel wool as this is too abrasive for glass.

If your trouble area is silicone, this process should remove it.

All you have to do after this is clean the glass as usual.

Let me know how it turns out.
