What major league team did the Indians defeat to
win the pennant? Thanks for your assistance.

In 1995, the Indians defeated the Boston Red Sox in the Division Series, and the Seattle Mariners in the American League Championship Series (ALCS).  They went on to lose the World Series to the Atlanta Braves in six games.  
In 1997, the Indians upset the New York Yankees in a fantastic Division Series, and again, upset the Baltimore Orioles to win the ALCS.  Unfortunately, they were themselves upset by the Florida Marlins in a seven game, gut-wrenching, extra-inning World Series.  There was no joy in Mudville...
