Question
We have a mantel clock made by The Ingraham Company and inside the back door it says Canto. It does work and chime has a wonderful rich tone. We finally found a key for it. Do you know how old it might be? Is it a keeper or should we sell it in the 100 mile grage sale this spring? We have $20 in it.
Thank you,
Virginia

Answer
on the paper label they were: "E. Ingraham & Co." 1861-1880
"The E. Ingraham & Co."  1880-1884
"The E. Ingraham Co."  1884-1958

If yours is the last- doesn't pin it down too close.
not knowing what it looks like but "has a back door" makes it in the middle of that time spread probably 1910-1935
If you like it - keep it
if you don't sell it - you should get your investment back
I do not do appraisals in AllExperts, sorry
