Clocks, Watches/Silence Lever

Question
I have a Shaker Hancock wall clock with a Mason & Sullivan 33710x movement. It has a silence lever just to the top left if your viewing the movement from the back. I need to fabricate a way to get the lever out to the side of the case so I can silence the chimes at night or from the bottom below the chime block. What do you recommend?

Answer
Hi John,
I usually attach a piece of 3/32" solid brass rod through the small hole in the end of the chime silencer lever. I leave it long enough to hang down just enough to see it behind the bottom edge of the dial frame. I bend the loose end into a circular loop to make it easy to grasp. Brass rod is available from most hobby and model train shops. This method doesn't affect the attractiveness of the clock, and saves a huge amount of time cutting a slot in the side of the clock.
