Clocks, Watches/battery question

Question
I have a Linden quartz alarm clock, but I misplaced the old battery. The number on the back is 4RE997. How do I track down the right battery?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Colleen,
The number you indicate unfortunately doesn't indicate anything that would help me answer your question. The battery type is often imprinted in the battery well. Most clocks of this type take a AA or AAA battery, or occasionally a C or D. The size of the battery well will indicate which battery will fit properly.
If this is a very small clock, with a pocket watch size movement, it may take a watch battery. These batteries come in many varieties, and there are numerous batteries of the same size which are not compatible with each other. In this case, the correct battery is almost always indicated somewhere on the clock. If it is not, only the instruction manual will be helpful to you.
I am currently unable to provide you with a direct link to Linden Clocks. This brand name has gone through multiple changes, and is currently a division of Seth Thomas, which is in turn now a division of Colibri, Inc. I have an information request in to Seth Thomas, and will notify you if I get a response with any useful information.
