Question
we have a chiming quartz clock, says 'james huntington' on it. it chimes on the hour and i want to stop it chiming at all. is this possible? there is a small white inset dial on the back which says 'final adj' and requires a screwdriver to adjust. i assume this has something to do with the chime, but i am not sure how/which way/how much to turn it. please help?

Answer
Hi Letitia,
There are so many different quartz movements, all with their own methods of setting, that I can only give you general information on yours.
The final adjustment screw may be either a chime adjustment or a time keeping adjustment. You would have to determine which way to turn it by trial and error. If it is a chime adjustment, it would adjust the point where the clock chimed relative to the hand position. It would not turn off the chime.
If your clock has a chime shutoff, it will probably be a switch which says "chime" and "silent". If it is a Hermle 2214 movement, it will have a switch which is marked "O, B, W". These settings are for chime Off, Bim-bam strike, and Westminster chime.
