Clocks, Watches/emperor clock weight

Question
I have owned my Emperor grandfather clock for over 20 years with no problems.  Recently, the middle weight moves down but the other two weights remain at the top.  It is a model 401M tubular chime movement, self-regulating escapement.  I would appreciate any help you can give to enable us to fix it.

Answer
The striking of a clock is regulated by a lift cm or other device that causes the chimes or strike to be cocked and activated.  I suspect friction is the culprit here.  I suggest you have the clock cleaned and adjusted.  If your clock has not been fully serviced in over 20 years it is reaching its life expectancy.  If you maintain a schedule of care and maintenance the clock should last for many generations.  Longevity is contingent upon proper care.
