Clocks, Watches/Chimes don't ring.

Question
We inherited a New England weight operated wall clock of the grandfather type.  It is stamped internally with UN 7/53 291029 and has a hand scratched number, 80030
It is also stamped The New Haven Clock Company. Farmington, CT, USA; Made In Germany:  No (0) Jewels, Unadjusted.

The pendulum works fine and the clock keeps great time.  Is there a way to turn on the chimes?  It seems the chain and weight are hanging properly and correctly on the pulley.

There is a black lever inside that I have tried to use thinking it might turn the chimes on or off.  If I lift it up then down and up again, the next time I set the weight on it chimes fine for 12 rings. But not automatically,

I see no other lever that might be a silencer.

Answer
Based upon description your clock is a New Haven in name only.  The movement was obviously made in Germany.  To assist you I would need to know, who made the movement and what model it is.  To acheive this recognition I ask that you send me digital picures of your clock and its movement.  Be sure to inlude a measureing device in each picture, this allows me to detiremine demensions.  If you do not have rescources to enable such pictures, open the clock case so that you can clearly see the brass back plate of the movement.  Copy down every bit of information stamped upon the back plate, including description of any logo.  I believe you are on the right track but need the requested information before helping you to solve this problem.  Send to my email address <flashpowder@hotmail.com> use
German New Haven as subject.  Regards WJP
