Question
We have a Seth Thomas E531-000 mechanical clock that needs a key.  Can you direct me in determining which size key it needs?  Also we are considering buying another Seth Thomas clock with westminster chimes that has three winding arbors and two adjustment arbors.  Can't figure out what the second adjustment arbor might be for.  Any clue?
Thanks.
Karen

Answer
I am not familiar with Seth Thomas E531-000.  I suspect It is one of the millions of Seth Thomas's in name only.  The real Seth Thomas Company went out of business in 1932, at which time it became part of General Time, which in turn became part of Talley Industries.  The name Seth Thomas was licensed to many different enterprises who built clocks under that name.  The most prolific of those firms made use of movements produced by Hermle, a German clock movement maker.
Based solely upon suspicion I suspect your clock is one those.  I would have to see it to make proper judgement.  As far as key size is concerned any of your local jewelers should be able to meet your need.  With respect to the double arbor I could not answer that without seeing the clock to determine what accessories have been installed.  One of the most logical explanations would be a device for turning of the chimes.  Sorry I really cant help you.  Regards WJP
