Clocks, Watches/Verichron Quartz Clock - Removing Minute Hand

Question
I have a 17yr old Verichron Clock that stopped working last week.  I believe the movement has died.  For sentimental reasons I would like to change out the movements.  To order the correct replacement, I need to remove the old one to make the exact measurements, but I can not "easily" remove the minute hand.  I do not want to force it off.  Is there a trick or special tool to removing this minute hand.  Your help is much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Todd,

The minute hand should be held on by a small nut, which should be removable by hand. Occasionally on older clocks some corrosion forms and the hand becomes tight. Unless the hand is hopelessly corroded or cross-threaded, you should be able to remove it by holding the hand near its center, while you turn the nut with a small pliers. This nut is never a left-hand thread, so you need not worry about that.

If all else fails, and assuming that the hands are not unique or highly decorative, you may resort to simply breaking it off. There are many sizes and styles of hands available for today's quartz replacement movements.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
