Question

ussr clock
This is a picture of some of the insides....the one I asked about. Not sure how to send more than one picture? I tried to add an arrow pointing to the spinning part that moves when the switch is flicked (the words on the switch are in Russian so I don't know if that is what it should be doing!) You can see part of the words near the bottom of the photo on the clear plastic. Front says Allegro, Electronic, USSR if that helps too. If you can tell me how to send an additional photo then I can do that. Maybe it can't be made to work, or I suppose since I don't think it has much value I could just put a different clock inside to run the hands...
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Lucas,

This type of movement is not designed to be repaired, and is very obsolete. If a new battery, and possibly cleaning the battery contacts with fine sandpaper, does not get it going, your only option is to replace it with a new movement.

Quartz replacement movements are readily available from any clock supply house, and are quite inexpensive. The necessary considerations are that the new movement fits in the space inside the clock case, and the handshaft is the same length as the one on the old movement. You will probably need to replace the hands also, but there are many styles and sizes of hands available. Installation is usually very easy, involving a single nut on the handshaft, and possibly a bit of double-sided tape.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
