Question

photo of pocket watch
I have a pocket watch - case looks like silver but could be white gold - stamped inside case of watch is 5 1 or 5 I.  Name Brewster & Co New York on face of watch.  There is a number stamped inside the workings C97463 or 5,  also 'CENTENNIAL' - doesn't look like there are any jewels. Stores in a heavy case with green lining with glass on front could be used as a clock.  On front of case just above round glass is BREWSTER & CO.  Would love to know about it - hope you can help.  Thanks

Answer
BREWSTER & CO is probably a jeweler.  They had their name put on the watch by the manufacturer.  That is called private labeling and was very common.  Tiffany's still does it today.  Same with Kenneth Cole.

Centennial is a Swiss watch company.  I don't have specific knowledge of them because I focus on American watches.

Kind regards,

Melvin
