Clocks, Watches/Clock chimes not working

Question
Hello,

We recently received a grandmother clock which had been moved.  The mechanism on the back of the clock says "Black Forest".  There are three weights.  Two are equal one is heavier.  When we place the heavy weight on the center, we keep perfect time but the chimes ring slowly and mostly not at all.  Especially, not past the third quarter hour, if they are working at all.  When we hang the heavy weight on the right, the chimes seem to work fine, however the pendulum will stop keep time after about 10-15 minutes.  Could you please advise us....

Answer
The position of the weights is important.  As you face the clock the heaviest weight must be on your right.  The remaining two weights should be the same so it makes no difference which is hung center or left.  IF one of the remaining weights is heavier than the other, hang it in the center.  I suspect your clock needs fresh lubricant, perhaps cleaning and adjustment.  Regards WJP
