Clocks, Watches/Hamilton 2112 quartz clock

QuestionThis clock is about 14 yrs. old and has no pendalum or any adjustable parts
other than the time set wheel and the chime on/off lever. It is supposed to,
and was, chiming on the quarter hr. and gives a full set of chimes on the
hour. My husband moved the hands counter clockwise when he reset the
clock. Now it does not chime at all.
I have tried: removing battery and resetting, running it clockwise through the
entire cycle. It still does not chime.
AnswerThis should not have caused your chime to stop but moving the hands backwards may have damaged the movement. These movements have problems with the battery connections though. Your movement was made by Hermle. The factory recommends that you use Duracell copper top batteries. I have sold hundreds of these movements and they defiantly have a problem, I'm not convinced that it is the battery though. Sometimes you can squeeze the top of the movement and the chime will start again.
Anyway, if you can't get it working you can replace the movement. They are sold by www.clockparts.com and www.klockit.com. They come in different hand shaft lengths so you will probably have to remove your movement and measure the length of the handshaft in order to get the proper replacement.
