Question
I have a Hamilton Wheatland 8-day key-wind mantel clock,  (Welby Westminster Chime with special Oscillating Lever Escapement). Stops every 12 hours at 5:05  after chiming, will not run until minute hand is manually set past 5:15 or so. Any ideas? Its about 13 years old, has been in a dusty climate, but works look very clean.

Answer
shut the chime off- lever on the dial or lever in back to hold hammers down. Now does it run past 5:05??

if so it is a problem in the chiming- probably need a pro inside it.

if not it is a gearing problem - bent tooth -piece of something in the teeth- and it is in the motion works on the front of the mechanism, which is the only gear that works on a 12 hour cycle with the hour hand.
