Question
Hi, I have a Hermle 451-053. The clock keeps good time but does not chime at all.  The lever on the face of the clock is not on "silent".  Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer
Make sure that the heaviest weight is on the right side of the clock as you face it.
The next thing to do is to oil the clock. A drop on the pivot holes at the fan and the gear below it will sometimes free up the chime.
You only want to oil the points where the pivots go through the plates. Pivots are the ends of the gear shafts. There is a small indent on the outside of the clock plates where the pivots go through the holes. This is an oil sink. Put just enough clock oil to fill this oil sink.
