ANSWER: they typically put a month and year code stamped into the brass plate that is the front of the mechanism itself.gotta remove the dial to see the numbers I think? they were in business from the 1880' to mid 1950--- got a photo? or you can look here:

QUESTION: Thanks for your reply. I took the face off, and it had a date of 8 35 the company was estabablish in 1823 would that date mean the 8 month of 1835 or 1935. Took a dust remover and blow it out and runs like a new one. The paper instrument on the inside of the door is like new. The wood work is like new. Would you have a idea of what it's worth might be?
Thanks for your help, Glenn and Joan
AnswerIngraham does not go back to 1823.
they were: Elias Ingraham 1857-1860
E. Ingraham & Co. 1861-1880
The E. Ingraham & Co. 1880-1884
The E. Ingraham Co. 1884-1958
so check to see the EXACT NAME on paper labels in the clock or the mechanism to get the period correct- but not 1823 and it would be 1935 not 1835 as steel springs were not available in 1835 and neither was your Dad!
worth is in the eye of the beholder and most cases clocks are worth much more to their owners as keepsakes than value on the market.
But with the info you have given me it is like asking some mechanic
" I have a Ford of my Dad's- what is it worth??"
