Question
I have inherited my Grandfathers, Grandfathers Clock. It is not working we replaced the piece that the pendulum swings on and we are trying to adjust the screw on it so that it keeps time. My Question is how do I turn the chimes on is there a lever or something that turns it on. The clock was moved 1200 miles by moving truck. It has the chains no keys. Thank you and God bless

Answer
On most clocks, such as yours, there is a lever protruding through the dial at 3:00 o'clock.  When the lever is down the chime is shut off.  When the lever is in the up position, the chime is unlocked and free to run.  There are many varients of this installation, so, if I have not hit the mark, send me some pictures of the clock.  From those I should be able to identify the specific clock I need to address.  Regards WJP
