Clocks, Watches/minute hand on AA battery operated clock broken ( it just dangles).

Question
I have an ordinary clock that is operated by 1 AA battery. Recently it fell off of the wall (aprox. 2-3 feet to the floor). Now the minute hand(the big hand) just dangles. The second hand and the hour hand(the small hand) still work just fine. Can I easily fix it? if so How?
Any and allhelp is greatly appreciated as this happens quite often with quite a bit of my clocks.

Answer
Hi Emily,

The minute hand may have just come loose from its shaft, or the shaft itself may have been damaged inside the movement.

The minute hand is held on by a nut at the tip of the shaft. You should remove the nut if it is loose, make sure that the hand is seated fully on the shaft, the reattach the nut finger-tight.

If the minute hand is properly connected to its shaft and the whole hand plus shaft unit is dangling freely, then the damage is inside the movement. Quartz/battery clocks are not designed to be repairable. If the shaft is damaged, your only option is to replace the entire movement.  http://www.clockmasteronline.com
