Clocks, Watches/Benchmark Clock - Limited Edition - Missing Key
Expert: Michael Radi - 1/15/2009
QuestionQUESTION: I am missing the key for a Benchmark clock Limited Edition called The Regency. The clock was given to us in 1990 but may be older. Can I get another key?
ANSWER: I must identify the movement in the clock before I can recommend a key of the right size.
Please look at the back of the clock movement and tell me any markings stamped on the movement.
Thanks, Michael

Unadjusted
Fabrik (SSS) Marke
Prazision - Graham - 8tage

ANSWER: I don't have any reference material to tell what size key this clock uses. The only option I can offer is for you to get a measurement of the key shaft. It is square and the measurement should be taken about 3/8" from the tip of the shaft. It is slightly tapered so that the key tightens onto it as it is pressed over the shaft.
Keys are sized in .25mm increments. A #3 key fits on a 3mm shaft. a #4 key fits a 3.25mm shaft and so on.
I would guess that your key might be around a size 7 or 8 based on my experience. However this could be way off if it is a smaller movement.
I hope this information helps you.

QUESTION: I measured the shaft from the tip to where it enters the mechanism. From the tip to where I can't measure it is 5/8".
Answer5/8" is way to big for a clock key. I need the measurement across the flat sides of the square that you put the key over. It will definitely be less than 1/2" and more like 1/4" to 3/8". This measurement need to be really accurate. If it is off by 1/16" the key won't fit.
