Question
how can i unwind the cables?
chimes and striker are locked.
why did they wind up uneven?
model 1171-850 hermle movement

Answer

click
most popular cause is that someone wound up the cables with out the weight hanging on the pulley.Read from a recent answer below:

<<<unfortunately, the cables were wound with the weights off and all three (left, middle and right) have crossed cables in their respective drum.

The pendulum is swinging however, the clock will not chime nor will it strike.  I can't figure out how to untangle or unwind the cables so that I can start over.

Thanks

Answer:

tricky stuff here.....the center one you can get unwound by taking the pendulum off and letting it tick rally fast till the weight gets to the bottom.

the left and right need to have their clicks released. see attached photo of a cable drum out of the clock. between the back of the front brass plate of the mechanism and the front of the drum is a ratchet gear and a click lever that is held against the click gear by a steel spring finger. if you can locate the tail end of the click lever and stick a long thin wire or screwdriver in between them so you can push on the tail of the click you can (while holding securely to the crank key) wind up one click and then push and hold the click lever while unwinding the cable with the crank key. Or with help you can have some one remove the weight and pull on the cable by hand (safer)

Or call a clock repair person.
