Question
I have a grandfather clock that keeps good time and chimes on every quarter hour. However, it chimes 15min late.  It will chime the hour bell at 15 min past the hour.  How can I fix this? thank you

Answer
You will need to remove the minute hand from it's arbor.  Since you did not in any way describe your clock I will assume the hand is held in place by a handnut.
Before doing anything stop the clock.
Remove the handnut then pull the minute hand straight out, do not allow the shaft to turn.  Examine the hand, you will see a bushing with a square hole is press fit onto the hand.  How this square hole fits on the square staff detiremines the quarter hour to be struck.  In this instance since the chime is 1/4 hour off you would position the hand to a 15 minute less that the actual time.  Secure the repositioned hand to its shaft with the hand nut.  Start the clock and reset to proper time.  Example:  You have stopped the clock with the minute hand at 12 and the clock has sounded the 3rd quarter.  You reposition the hand from the 12 position to the 9 position.  That is it.  Regards WJP
