Clocks, Watches/mechanical clock to buy
Expert: William J Perkins - 12/9/2008
QuestionI think of buying a mechanical wall clock like KASSEL Brookwood Wall Clock, or Bulova Ashford Regulator Wall Clock. Which of this two is of better quality? May you recommend a similar model of better quality. What time precision should I expect? How durable are these clocks.
Thank you
AnswerFrankly I do not hold either clock in high esteem. In my estimation the cases are flashy, to attract buyers and the movements of mediocre quality. If you want a real clock I suggest you browse your local auctions, antique stores etc. You might end up with a genuine heirloom that could pass from generation to generation, with pride. Many of these clock are already near antiques and when properly cared for would do their job for another 100 or so years. I know this is not what you wanted to hear but it is my honest suggestion. I have clocks in my collection that were originated in the 16th century and they are still going strong, keeping admirable time. Regards WJP
