Clocks, Watches/Chime rods broken on side strike 8-rod chime bar

Question
Our son gave us a wall clock (Ansonia model 950 purchased)for Christmas and 3 of the 8 chime rods are broken.  Two of them are broken at the base of the screw and 1 just fell out of the screw assembly.  The chime bar is for a triple chime movement with side strike.  Is there a place where the screws and rods can be purchased or is it better to replace the whole bar?  The wall clock has beveled glass and what appears to be brass or copper chime rods in the bar.  I can send you pictures of the clock and chime bar and rods if that would help.

Any information on how to repair the chime rod or bar would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Answer
Hi John,
I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.
It is always preferable to replace the entire chime rod assembly with mounting block. If your clock is a "new" Ansonia (made since 1970), you may be able to obtain this part from www.ansonia.com. If it is an antique Ansonia, you will need to get a chime rod assembly from a clock materials house like Timesavers, Merritts Antiques or Empire Clock.
Chime rod assemblies are available in many styles and sizes, and you will need to find one which most closely approximates your original. It may be necessary to drill new mounting holes in the case back, as the  holes will not necessarily line up with the new assembly.
Chime assemblies come in tuned sets, and trying to replace individual rods will result in a very off-tune sound. Also, the rods are screwed into the block very tightly, and it is often difficult or impossible to remove them.
