Question
Why does my wall clock have three winding holes and what does each one do?
Hi Craig,
Each winding hole winds a different mainspring. There are three mainsprings, the left one (looking at the clock) is for the hour strike, the center is for the time (pendulum), and the right is for the quarter-hour chime. This arrangement is true for all except a few antique clocks.
