Question
I have a upright grandfathers clock by Colonial.  Bought new in 1978.  The screw down on the bottom of the penduluem, can be tightened right or left to make the clock go faster or slower,(I was told).  How do I know where the screw should normally be.  I'm afraid I turned the screw unknownly to the point I'm not sure where it should be.  My clock was running to slow!  Can you help me? Please, I live in a town of 600 people in the middle of no where in Montana.

Answer
trial and error(although if you look closely there might be marks-dirty vs. clean or scratches etc. on the back side of the pendulum where the top of the disk is) Keep a log of what you do and you can get it nearly perfect. Tightening the nut so the round disk is moved up=speeding the clock up (goes faster)
