Clocks, Watches/Seth Thomas Mantle sporadic chimes

Question
I have a Seth Thomas Mantle, not sure what year or model. It winds, keeps time, and the Westminster Chime all work perfectly. However, it always strikes some random hour. Never any pattern. Do you know anything about this? Also, could you please tell me how to properly wind it and set the time, in case that may be the problem? Thank you.

Answer
Before I answer this question I need some more information.  I.e., is your clock an American made, genuine Seth Thomas or one of the laterday assembled clocks.  This is discernable from the data stamped upon the clock movements backplate.  Copy down and send me that information.  With that in hand I can help you.  There is a world of difference between the two.  Regards WJP
