Question
I have a hermle movement 1161-853 as. The thumbscrew in the anchor bridge
broke off and I can't tighten it on the spring.I have not been successful in
finding a replacement bridge and thumbscrew. Can you help? I have also
thought of drilling it out and using a small bolt and nut. Is that a decent
alternative? Thanks, Fred

Answer
Hi Frederick,
Some verge bridges are available from Black Forest Imports, but I don't know if they will have the one you need.
I would recommend removing the broken screw and replacing it with a simple taper pin, available from any clock supply house. Taper pins were used exclusively for this purpose for many years, and should work fine. An extremely tight fit of the suspension spring in the post slot is not necessary.
